‘You stuffed up! Didn’t you? Go on! Admit it! You stuffed up!’
In setting up the email address for this blog, firstname.lastname@example.org was already taken. So I did make it email@example.com. And WordPress does insert the word blog on the end of your email address as the default URL.
However, I did spot this before I finished creating the site. beezkneezblog.wordpress.com is taken. It does seem to be taken by someone that started constructing a Fitness & Nutrition blog, but never followed through on completing it. But taken nonetheless.
I considered my options and decided to keep it as it was. Here is why….
First, for reasons I cannot fully articulate, I like the way blogblog rolls off the tongue. Perhaps it is a natural predilection for 4/4 timing in music. I do have a musical ear. Most of my other bits are utterly tone deaf but the ear is okay. Specifically the ear on the left.
Secondly, having a blogblog will, through the simple appearance of being a mistake, has a greater potential to be noticed or discussed. It stands out. Everyone has a blog. How many people have a blogblog? Its special. I don’t want to say unique because once people catch on, everyone will probably have their own blogblog while claiming that they had their blogblog before it became mainstream.
It is only a name after all. And what is a name but a collection of sounds to which we associate identity. What is important is the identity that bring to that name. So having a blogblog is the blogging equivalent of calling your child Leviathan or Duda. It makes the name stand out. People notice. Nobodies ears prick up when they hear the name Bob or Jane. Okay, perhaps children with the more unusual names will then spend much of the rest of their lives wishing they were the recipients of less attention, but blogs sites lurve attention and rarely require therapy in later life.
Okay, since we are on the subject of names, what is with the beezkneez bit?
The beezkneez handle actually dates back to around 2004/2005 when I first played the MMORPG, City of Heroes (and later City of Villains). I created my own superhero complete with insect themed costume called Beezkneez. He was, well, pretty lame really. But at the time he leapt around and shouted I am the beezkneez! He revelled in his lameness. I only wish I had bothered to keep a screenshot of him to be able to show you, but alas they too were lost many a PC reformat ago.
