Today’s Focus: Land Day
A Palestinian event, remembering March 30 1976.
This was the first time since 1948 that Arabs in Israel organized a response to Israeli policies as a national collective. The Israeli government announced plans to expripriate large areas of land for security and settlement purposes. A general strike and marches were organized to protest this. Confrontations between protestors and army and police saw six unarmed Arab citizens killed, around one hundred wounded, and hundreds of other arrested.
Daily Trivia: In Denmark, an artificial island was created in the 90s as part of the Øresund bridge-tunnel. No plants were established, leaving nature to colonize at its own rate. Today, the island hosts 450+ plant species, 8-12 bird species and rare spiders.
