Sealed on 15 June 1215 near Windsor in England, the Magna Carta (Magna Carta Libertatum) was a document that made peace between an unpopular king and his barons. Over time it evolved and was renewed by each moarch in turn, effectively establishing civil liberties and limiting the authority of the Monarch. It is viewed as a cornerstone in the development of democratic England by later generations.
