This is a commemoration and celebration of the life of Irish writer James Joyce during which the events of his novel Ulysses are relived. That novel was set on 16 June 1904. Observed in Dublin and other places. Joyce chose the date as it was the first outing with his wife-to-be.
Daily Trivia: Officially, the longest war in history was between the Netherlands and the Isles of Sicily, which lasted from 1651 to 1986. There were no casualties.
