2017 will be the third year of preparing these daily events and trivia posts. Initially, it was just about sharing some of the silly events that exist.
This year, I have expanded my research to represent many more international days. The idea being to promote greater global awareness. Some acts and language associated with racism stems from ignorance, and if increasing awareness helps to combat that ignorance, then I would be happy if this little old blog contributed toward that objective. Even just through expanding the sites I research when finding these events, I expect each day this year to have many more events listed than in previous years..
This has led to some unexpected problems, as several sites I use as resources disagree on when certain events occur. When I have come across such conflicts, I favour official sites for events, creditable sites such as un.org, but sometimes I am guessing.
In addition to referencing all events (to prove I’m not just making these up) I will also add little flag icons to represent the country or countries they relate to. Global events or those whose origins are not clear (or are related to other origins such as religions) will have no flags.
Thanks to those who follow the blog. Having made a conscious decision not to include ads or promotional activities, that means that every one that visits this site have found their way here organically. You are appreciated.
