A birthday present I received earlier this year was a 3D Game of Thrones jigsaw of Westeros.
As a fan of Game of Thrones, I settled in to working at it. The picture guide provided was painfully small, and not helped by large areas of plain black or brown with little or no distinguishing characteristics, combined with come pieces being interchangeable, made it a real challenge.
The progress was slow. And after several weeks, I decided to take the jigsaw in to work. Some co-workers had been doing jigsaws on a table between our desks on lunch breaks. Having just finished a jigsaw, I suggested bringing mine in, as the current rate of progress was likely to see George RR Martin finish the series before I finished the jigsaw,
By the end of the first day, we had more progress than I had managed in the 6-8 weeks on my own. Several co-workers joined in and anyone that came by to see us was told that they were required to contribute as well.
The progress was reasonably swift from there. It still took 2-3 weeks to finish the base layer.
But the second layer and model pieces were done inside of one day.
Many people came by our desks just to visit and check the jigsaw out. I rewatched the DVD released seasons on completion. Being able to reference the visual of the map added a lot to the context.
Then, we found out we were moving desks. And we wouldn’t have a “jigsaw table” at our new desks. We removed the 3D layers and wrapped the base jigsaw in boxes so that I could transport it home.
It got home safely except for one single jigsaw piece that vanished in the process. Fortunately, it was a piece that is covered by the 3D layers anyway. The finished jigsaw now sits on display in my living room.
The following section is a series of Game of Thrones vs Star Wars pictures. Since Game of Thrones seems to have bred a new degree of spoiler sensitive individuals, be warned that if you are not caught up to season 4 of Game of Thrones, these might give you a clue about something you haven’t seen yet. Though, if you aren’t current with the series and are reading articles about it on the internet, you really are just asking for spoilers.
Great shots of the completed jigsaw puzzle, and the GoT/Star Wars mashups.
I hear what you are saying about how having the visual reference of the map was a nice companion for re-watching the show.
