Now to wrap all the action from the 2016 Beezkneez Supercoach Draft League in Round One.
First Game: Rough Draft vs Clem Fandango
Key players missing from team line ups:
Rough Draft: J O’Meara (GCS), H Bennell (FRE)
Clem Fandango: D Beams (BRL), J McVeigh (SYD)
Commentary: The grand final rematch saw both teams a little understrength, but remained a close scoring thriller to the end. Clem Fandango absorbed a donut on the field from J Grimes (MEL) with nobody on the interchange playing to come on as emergency. Both sides only saw two players each score more than 100 points. But when the siren sounded, Rough Draft just barely managed to hold on for a victory by 3 points.
Best:
Rough Draft: T Liberatore (WB), J Selwood (GEE)
Clem Fandango: B Cunnington (NTH), J Westhoff (PTA)
Injuries: Rough Draft: L Franklin (SYD) shoulder, minor
Game Two: Galaxy’s Guns vs musashimonsters
Key players missing from team line ups: musashimonsters: D Swallow (GCS)
Commentary: Another very close match. Despite a great captain’s match from N Naitanui (WC), and the three other player for the Guns that cracked triple digits, being A Treloar (COL), J Gunston (HAW) and W Langford (HAW). Meanwhile, five players for the monsters broke the ton in round one. This was enough to carry musashimonsters through for the win.
Best:
Galaxy’s Guns: N Naitanui (WC), A Treloar (COL), J Gunston (HAW), W Langford (HAW)
musashimonsters: A Hall (GCS), M Murphy (CAR), Z ZMerrett (ESS), D Shiel (GWS), M Blicavs (GEE)
Injuries: None
Game Three: Brendan’s Lobos vs Jackson 22
Key players missing from team line ups:
Brendan’s Lobos: D Zorko (BRL)
Jackson 22: I Maric (RIC), B Hill (HAW)
Commentary: Both sides managed four players on the ground to score 100+, and each team also had a player on the bench break 100. Solid captains knocks from Lobo’s P Dangerfield (GEE), and Jackson’s T Goldstein (NTH) anchored each team. A standout performance from Jackson’s L Parker (SYD) combined with P Dangerfield (GEE) to claim the victory over Brendan’s Lobos.
Best:
Brendan’s Lobos: C Wingard (PTA), P Dangerfield (GEE), S Docherty (CAR), J Hogan (MEL)
Jackson 22: L Parker (SYD), T Goldstein (NTH), B Kennedy (MEL), R Lobb (GWS)
Injuries: None
Game Four: Motley Crew vs KilpatrickDangrfld
Key players missing from team line ups: No “stars” missing.
Commentary: Highlighted by a superb captains score, KilpatrickDangrfld was led by M Priddis (WC), who was supported by five other players cracking the 100 point barrier. Despite K Kolodjashnij (GCS) withdrawing with illness, those big scores were enough to account for Motley Crew who only saw two players break the 100 point score mark. Even the captain T Rockliff (BRL) only scored 89.
Best:
Motley Crew: T Mitchell (SYD), M Bontempelli (WB)
KilpatrickDangrfld: M Priddis (WC), T Hickey (STK), B Gibbs (CAR), D Prestia (GCS), M Rosa (GCS)
Injuries:
Motley Crew: J Anderson (NTH) Hamstring
KilpatrickDangrfld: K Kolodjashnij (GCS) late withdrawal illness
Game Five: White Line Fever vs Wanda Bombers
Key players missing from team line ups: While there were few “superstars” missing from these two sides, neither captain had been watching the final team lineups, and both saw a disappointing number of donuts pop up as a result. White Line Fever went into the match with four players named on the ground that weren’t playing. Meanwhile Wanda Bombers had six players named on the ground who weren’t playing.
Commentary: In a match of the walking wounded, both team captains also underperformed. White Line Fever‘s captain, N Fyfe (FRE) managing just 61, while Wanda Bombers captain D Mundy, scoring 82. White Line Fever still managed four players that cracked the 100 point mark, with Wanda Bombers managing four. Wanda Bombers snuck away with the 4 points, but both coaches now needing to address a number of issues in their squad if they hope to be competitive over the season.
Best:
White Line Fever: T McDonald (MEL), J Viney (MEL), A Gaff (WC), J Kelly (ESS)
Wanda Bombers: K Jack (SYD), A Everitt (CAR), R Tarrant (NTH), C Enright (GEE)
Injuries: None
Game Six: Todd Goldmember vs Fourthorn
Key players missing from team line ups: No superstars missing.
Commentary: Both teams had disappointing performances from their captains. Goldmember’s H Shaw (GWS) posting 97, while Fourthorn‘s captain S Pendlebury (COL) posting 89. Goldmember saw three players pass the 100 point mark. Fourthorn saw five players pass 100, and in the end were just too strong.
Best:
Todd Goldmember: D Zaharakis (ESS), J Johannisen (WB), L Neale (FRE)
Fourthorn: C Ward (GWS), K Lambert (RIC), M Rischitelli (GCS), J Steven (STK), D Armitage (STK)
Injuries: None
Game Seven: TeamarinoWazarino vs Ed
Key players missing from team line ups: Ed: L Jetta (WC)
Commentary: A tough week for TeamarinoWazarino, with the captain S Martin (BRL) scoring below his projection, three donuts on the field, and not one single player in the squad breaking 100 points. Ed managed two players scoring over 100, being G Ablett (GCS) and J Lewis (HAW), but two donuts and a third zero score from an early injury to D Swan (COL) costing the coach dearly. Yet Ed still claimed the win.
Best:
TeamarinoWazarino: R Sloane (ADE), S Martin (BRL)
Ed: G Ablett (GCS), J Lewis (HAW), S Sidebottom (COL)
Injuries:
TeamarinoWazarino: M Williams (COL) knee, L Hodge (HAW) arm
Ed: D Swan (COL) ankle, major
Reports: Ed: S Sidebotton (COL) rough conduct
Game Eight: WADA you want vs Garry’s Lyon
Key players missing from team line ups: Garry’s Lyon: A Sandilands (FRE), C Masten (WC)
Commentary: In what looks set to be the largest winning margin of round 1, WADA you want accounted easily for the injury riddled Garry’s Lyon. Garry’s Lyon saw four donuts on the field, and the replacement ruckman Z Clarke (FRE) brought in to cover for A Sandilands (FRE) taking an injury. Meanwhile the captain T Boak (PTA) managed only 58 for the side, with only two players P Cripps (CAR) and S Mitchell (HAW) breaking the 100 point threshold.
In contrast, WADA you want saw his captain D Hannebery (SYD) lead the way with a 100 point game, backed up by five other 100 point gamers.
Best:
Garry’s Lyon: P Cripps (CAR), S Mitchell (HAW), L Dalhaus (WB)
WADA you want: J Lloyd (SYD), K Simpson (CAR), J Stringer (WB), T Bell (BRL), D Hannebery (SYD)
Injuries:
Garry’s Lyon: Z Clarke (FRE) knee
Game Nine: Out of Peptides vs Kobayashi Maru
Key players missing from team line ups: No “superstars” missing
Commentary: Out of Peptides captain J Kennedy (SYD) had a poor game scoring only 75 and only one player in the squad breaking the 100 point mark, being J Waite (NTH). In contrast, Kobayashi Maru, led by R Gray (PTA) scoring 126, had seven players breaking the 100 point margin, including a spectacular performance by J Kennedy (WC) who racked up 180. The most players to do so in the league in round one, leading Kobayashi Maru to a comfortable victory. Though, a number of injuries may be of concern, the early depth of the Kobayashi Maru squad looks intimidating. Out of Peptides also has three players on report for rough conduct.
Best:
Out of Peptides: J Waite (NTH), M Crouch (ADE)
Kobayashi Maru: J Kennedy (WC), R Gray (PTA), R Murphy (WB), D Rich (BRL), B Vince (MEL), A Rance (RIC), M Weller (STK)
